Systems Integrators

IBM and GCI Communications have developed The Track and Trace Delivery Assistant system, the backbone of France's Chronopost delivery system. This new track and trace technology allows Chronopost to transfer data to their central database by using a transparent mobile data network, connecting the van to the computer. Customers can then access delivery status of parcels. Chronopost's 1700 vehicle fleet is equipped with GCI's VideoPad model VP6 data collection and communications device, a communications cradle model VMC6 and a WAN radio. Using the VP6 at every delivery point, the driver captures all relevant information; i.e., scan the barcode, note parcels that are mis-addressed, or any other delivery failure. Once the driver has returned to the vehicle, the handheld is docked in the cradle and the delivery information is sent by WAN to Chronopost's central
data base. The delivery information is almost instantly available for query. At the end of the day, all handhelds are placed in GCI's docking station model DS6 at Chronopost's 36 depot stations. Any
data not yet reported to the central data base that day is done so at this time, as well as comparative analysis for accuracy. The system detects handhelds that require application updates released from the system's administrator and performs automatic download of the update. The Track and Trace Delivery Assistant system has given Chronopost a competitive advantage in the highly competitive French express mail market.

Summary Systems provides on-board computer solutions for fleet management systems throughout the United States including trip recording, Global Positioning Satellite (GPS), cellular communications and driver data entry.
